About Us

History

Little George's Child Care Centre is a non-profit organization serving the community of Thunder Bay for over 30 years. We are a part of the Northwood EarlyON hub located in Sherbrooke Public School.

We offer licensed full and part-time child care for children aged 18 months to 5 years of age and programming for school-aged children, 6 to 12 years of age.

Little George's Child Care Centre opened in September 1986 initially under the name George Jeffrey Day Care. We were located at 507 North Lillie Street for many years before moving to our current location. Changes and the idea of having child care centres located in schools drove us to relocate to Sherbrooke Public School in November 2008. At this time our name changed to George Jeffrey/Sherbrooke Community Day Care. Relocating into the school gave us the ability to expand our program to include school age children. Finally in 2019 with re-branding we also changed our name, and in September 2019 we became Little George's Child Care Centre.

Our Staff

Little George's staff are Registered Early Childhood Educator's who encourage children to learn through play to help the children develop physically, socially and emotionally. Play allows children to explore their thoughts and feelings about themselves as people and learners. Play also offers the opportunity to participate in social situations, exercise self-control and interact with others. As children socialize, their vocabularies increase and their language develops.

Little George's has on-site food preparation. Our cook plans, purchases and cooks all the snacks and lunches for the children every day. The cook is creative and is always introducing new foods for the children to taste. With some of the food allergies and food restrictions, foods are prepared with consideration to all of the children who attend each and every day.

Environment

The staff at Little George's strive to provide a safe, inclusive, nurturing home like environment for the children and their families. We facilitate and promote positive outcomes for children's learning, development, health and well-being. By providing environments, materials and experiences that encourage exploration and inquiry. Little George's works in partnership with families to ensure the best outcome and learning experience for the children.

Little George's takes pride in our natural outdoor play scape. Our natural play scape is fully accessible to all children. In this setting children will have the opportunities to learn and grow through sensory experiences, physical activities, imagination as well as gaining valuable knowledge about nature.
